Grunge style themes are becoming increasingly popular. With their often edgy, memorable designs and a strong artistic element they can really make your blog or website stand out from the crowd.
Below are 8 of the best. I’ve selected both free and premium designs, and have tried to provide a range of different style choices.
A free theme, available in both dark and light. I like this theme, but it hasn’t been updated in awhile and you may run into problems if you intend to install many widgets. If you just want a simple site, and don’t mind testing any plugins carefully before trusting that they’re compatible then this is one of the better free grunge themes out there.

This is good looking theme by a talented designer. Again, compatibility with some new plugins may be a problem, as it’s no longer updated. This is an issue with pretty much all free themes though.

This is a flexible theme that allows you to switch between 4 different templates, Default, Grunge, Subtlety, and Oceanic. Pictured is the Grunge template, but I’m also a fan of their default red on asphalt template, with its clean lines and eye catching background.

Another offering by ElegantThemes. This is a magazine style theme, and will work well for more complex sites where you would like to have a range of easily accessible categories. It has 3 color settings and will work well for any art, literature or cinema related blog/website.

Ideal for photographic, personal and band / musician sites. 4 color options are available.
5. PaperCut by WooThemes
PaperCut
I actually use this theme on one of my personal sites. It’s very well made with built in Search Engine Optimization and a variety of easily changeable elements. It’s not cheap, but WooThemes support is excellent and as I own multiple sites, I belong to their theme club.
6. Dilapidated – ThemeForest

An excellent theme for personal blogs, band sites, fan sites or designer websites.
7. Tarnished – Themeforest
WordPress Grunge
This is a modern, professionally designed, stable and feature packed theme. It has 7 color settings, and built-in support for both self hosted and embedded videos.
