Why Should You Manage Your Time?

Why Should You Manage Your Time?

( Hmm..okay so maybe this photo isn’t the greatest for this post. But, I like it. šŸ˜‰Ā

I often get to the end of the day before I notice I havenā€™t attacked any of the projects that Iā€™d set out to accomplish. This has always been confusing to me, as my days seem to be filled and I feel busy most, if not all of the time.

Maybe I spend too much time at the gym and book store. Hmm…

This last month, especially because I have been traveling from Costa Rica to Boston and To Mexico ad Back to Boston.

This last week though, I forced myself to be extremely aware of how I spent my days. I didnā€™t adjust them much, yet, I wanted to see what was going on.

I am embarrassed to admit (but also glad I see it so I can make appropriate adjustments) just how much time I waste each and every day.

I do a lot of ā€œgoing to the gym,ā€ ā€œgetting ready for the gym,ā€ ā€œbeing at the gym,ā€ ā€œheading to the store, TraderJoes, etc..,ā€ it must stop!

I also willingly jump down rabbit holes. Again, there is some value in this, but it can be a huge distraction. I go on Facebook to make connections, both business and personal, post comments and announcements on Instagram, which could take me 10 or 15 minutes and find an hour or more has often gone by.

I go to Google to research something I need for a product, talk, class or article and find my way meandering all over the Internet on random ā€œfact finding missions.ā€

Again all of this can be good and necessary, but indulging in it a bit too much looks to be part of why I havenā€™t progressed as quickly in my business as I might have.

Late in the evening, when Iā€™ve had a ā€œbusyā€ day, I like to relax in front of a Netflix movie or TV show.

Problem is … I often find Iā€™ll watch two or three movies or several episodes of that TV show, pushes bedtime further down the timeline, pushing wake up time further away, eroding productive time the next day.

Can you relate?

There are other ways I waste time, I donā€™t need to go into all of them, I think you get the picture. I am usually driven. I have had times in my life when I was focused and organized to go along with that drive. What I seem to remember about those times was that I actually had MORE time to doodle around once the tasks at hand had been accomplished.

As I said in my last post, I am beginning to put in more and more organization of my day, week and month. I will report back on how this affects both my business and my time to relax and.

Talk Soon,

Ryan
